Research
Systemik maintains a sustained dialogue between digital humanities research and emerging computational technologies. Since its founding, the company has emphasised experimentation with new technologies while integrating stable mainstream tools capable of supporting sustainable scholarly infrastructure. Our platforms are developed in collaboration with researchers and grounded in scholarly research workflows integrated with generative AI methods. Areas of collaboration include philology, linguistics, cultural and historical studies, art practice, mapping, and image analysis.
Technology
Systemik develops using an open-source technology stack and delivers platforms as software-as-a-service with API access. The PerformX® suite of publishing products has long served clients in finance, manufacturing, and government. Its current form, PerformX® Content Workbench, provides structured content transformation and migration to the Drupal open-source content management environment. In 2022 Systemik launched Codifynd, a platform integrating AI cognitive services and data visualisation for the analysis of large document collections. In 2024 Systemik launched Glycerine, a IIIF-based annotation framework supporting collaborative scholarly image analysis and publication of non-traditional research outputs.
Consulting
Systemik applies established corporate IT consulting methodologies to research infrastructure and digital platform development. Since 1995 the company has delivered more than 480 consulting projects, engaging over 250 specialist contractors to date across finance, manufacturing, government, and the humanities research sector. Projects have ranged from targeted advisory work to large development teams. Our corporate Performance Mapping methodology for structured content systems has been adapted for digital humanities as Research Platform Mapping, providing a systematic framework for designing robust platforms that support scholarly workflows and contemporary research outputs.
