At Systemik Solutions, we design, develop, and maintain websites for humanities research. For data-driven scholarship—particularly work involving thematic collections, semantic annotation, and relationship graphing—the website forms part of the research infrastructure itself rather than an afterthought.
Our approach aligns the underlying data structure, the researcher workbench, and the public interface from the outset. The result is a research website that supports active scholarship, presents complex material clearly to scholarly and public audiences, and remains sustainable well beyond the original funding cycle.

We work primarily with grant-funded humanities projects producing relational datasets, curated corpora, prosopographies, mapped collections, annotated images, and networked knowledge graphs.

Example Site – Opening the Multilingual Archive of Australia (OMAA)
Venue for engagement with regard to a study of multilingual aspects of narratives about Australia.
Opening the Multilingual Archive of Australia brings together historical materials from national and international collections in languages other than English in order rethink and enlarge narratives about Australia that come solely from English-language sources, by showing modern Australia to be a complex multilingual creation.

Venue for publishing research outputs from a study of urban space, art and culture.
Site and Space in Southeast Asia provides interactive mapping to explore the intersections of urban space, art and culture in three cities—Yangon, Penang, and Huế—through collaborative, site-based research.
Node Graphs
Example Site – Womanifesto
Venue for the publishing of research outputs from a program of collaboration with regard to women artists.
Site using faceted search and a network graph to explore the relationships between makers, makings, musings with regards to collectives of women artists across South East Asia.
WordPress
Highly customised publishing environments integrated with structured datasets and external services. Where thematic or editorial flexibility is required, we publish via WordPress albeit we use the ARDC supported Curated Collections
framework as the back-end.

Standards-aligned, metadata-driven publishing with robust vocabularies, resource templates and API-first architecture. Where appropriate, we deploy Omeka S as a research-first CMS capable of generating a website directly from the data platform.

For complex content architectures requiring granular permissions, complex entity modelling, and scalable infrastructure, and for immersive visualisation requirements, we build in Drupal.

Researcher Workbench and Site Publishing
A significant proportion of humanities grants involve what we describe as ‘relationship graphing’: cumulative semantic linking across texts, artefacts, people, places, and concepts. These projects require structured data models, clear ontological design, sustainable identifier strategies, flexible visualisation outputs, and long-term custodianship. We design research workbench and web publishing solutions with relationship graphing baked-in from the outset. The digital&nb sp;solution is&nbs p;part of the research method. Our services encompass:
- Researcher workbenches for data entry, annotation and semantic linking,
- Data-driven public websites generated directly from structured repositories,
- Visualisation layers: catalogues, tabular views, node graphs, and spatial interfaces,
- Standards-aligned export (including RO-Crate) for integration with national research infrastructure,
- Hosting, sustainability planning, and long-term maintenance frameworks.
ARC Proposals and Grant Recipients
We have an established consulting practice to workshop, wireframe, prototype and develop engaging and productive research sites. We provide skills transfer for data and content workflows and&nb sp;support the transitions from development through launch to sustainable institutional hosting.
